Here is another LED mood lamp. This one is based on an Ikea table top accent lamp and a blinkM module. The unique feature of this one is that you can cange the object that scatters the light form the LED in addition to modifying the sequence using the I2C bus.
I built this after recieving my blinkM modules from SparkFun and deciding to try something quick using stuff I had lying around. It's easy to do and you can change the look of it at will by replacing the object on top. I didn't use anything other then the default light script onthis one, so it was literally plug and play. I plan to control the light using ann information feed from the net, somewhat like the Ambient Orb, but am just starting the controller for that. I started with an Ikea accent light and removed the existing cord and lamp holder. I had to break a few plastic tabs to get the lamp holder out, but it was eas and didnt seem to comprimise the intregity of the lamp at all. Once the lamp parts were removed I folded the pins on the blinkM module over to make it a little lower profile so it would fit inside the original reflector.
Using a bit of poster tack (it's a sticky putty like substance used to hang posters on the wall without marring the surface) I stuck the blinkM module and a wiring harness I made from an old PC CD audio cable into center of the reflector. I connected the wiring to a +5V regulated wall transformaer I had lying around, re-assembled the lamp, plugged it and was done.
The cool thing about the blinkM module is that it's bright enough to visibly illuminate the objects even in a brightly lit room.
